New infrastructure for machines moving money.
We are entering the Age of Autonomy, a new paradigm that will be defined by the emergence of abundant machine intelligence, autonomous economic participation, and an enormous increase in human leverage.
More and more of our daily tasks are already kicking off tiny chain reactions of searching, browsing, reading, and computing; all activities performed by smart machines on our behalf. Someday soon, these smart machines will start engaging more directly with each other. And as they do, the internet will evolve into more than just a communications network for humans, but an incredible marketplace for ideas and exchange between humans and machines alike.
However, critical pieces are missing—namely, payments. Even in the state of the art, the digital financial infrastructure of today is too brittle, too complex, too bifurcated, and too slow for autonomous systems to use at scale.
Infrastructure is not sexy. But new paradigms always necessitate new primitives. That’s why the team at Final is bringing strong opinions in design, financial systems, and onchain technology to bear on the problem of agentic commerce. Our first project, called Balances, is an agent-first financial primitive for payments that we expect to launch later this summer.
We’d love for you to follow our progress on X. And if you’re working on something interesting at the intersection of payments and agents, or want to beta test our software, please reach out and let us know. We look forward to hearing from you.
